Social Media, Brain Rewiring, Our Need For God

07 Aug

Recently Newsweek ran an article detailing the rise of internet addiction.  In the article they site many studies from leading universities worldwide dealing with this issue.  I will say that is it a cause of concern.  We are spending more and more time online trying to connect with others and build our social/virtual standing, yet we are feeling lonelier and more depressed than ever.

This is really sad and tragic to me.  We log on and sign in to find connection.  We are wired and built for connection with others, we have been since the Garden.  The church should be filling this void in the lives of those in our communities.  We should be living in such a way that we are investing in the lives of those in our lives and getting to know them and develop deep friendships with them.  This is what the Gospel calls us to do and we must do it.
