Bonhoeffer – Eric Metaxas – A Book Review

17 Oct

A few days ago I finished this wonderful biography of Pastor Bonhoeffer. Going into reading this book I thought I knew a lot of this man and I believed I knew his story well. The more I read the more I realized I did not know as much as I thought about him. I am sure I will reread this book several times and each time learn something I missed before about Pastor Bonhoeffer.

I believe one of the marks of a great book, especially in the genre of biography, is the ability to grip you and draw you into the story. Eric Metaxas does this beautifully in this work. I found my heart leaping when reading of Dietrich and Miss Wedemeyer’s growing love. I felt Dietrich’s frustration with the German church and its capitulation to Hitler. My heart raced as the Gestapo closed in on him. And finally, yes I cried when the Nazi’s murdered Pastor Bonhoeffer. I know this book will grip you in a similar way and pull you into the life and struggle of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, so go buy it or download it on kindle and enjoy it.
