There are some books that as you finish you know you are going to read again and again. Sometimes it is a good novel that just grips you. Many times it is one of the great books of Western Civilization that just has so much there to unpack. Other times it is a non-fiction book that challenges and stirs you. That describes this book, Creature Of The Word, by Matt Chandler, Josh Patterson, and Eric Geiger.
In this book the authors lay out the need for having a church that centers on Jesus. They accurately point out how many churches have a great foundation with a correct theology; however they do not reinforce that theology through their philosophy of ministry and their practice of ministry. This leads to the church member believing what they believe about God is not important in their day to day life, because it is not important to the way the church functions.
We have to do better than this. We have to let Jesus guide and direct all that we do in the church. We have to let the meta-narrative, (Creation, Fall, Redemption, Consummation) of Scripture shine forth in all aspects of church life.
I was challenged and stirred by this book and I know you will be too, I do encourage you to read it and to apply its truths.
