I want to start off by admitting that I am a fan of the writing of Tchividjian. The first book of his I read was Surprised By Grace, and I was greatly impacted by Jesus + Nothing = Everything. So needless to say I was excited to read this book on suffering. Yes you read that correctly, I was excited to read a book all about suffering. Now before you tune me completely out and just think me a masochist, let me clarify. I have dealt with a lot of personal suffering, and to be honest I have not handled much of it will.. Maybe it is because of my own hard headedness, stubbornness, and inability to just give things over to God at times, but I have received quite a few blows over the years, both personally and professionally. I do think I have made progress in learning to suffer better for the cause of Christ, but it is something I am always wanting to learn better and more.
Glorious Ruin is an excellent book about learning to see suffering as a natural part of life. Pastor Tullian shows how to confront suffering and how to deal with it and how to not deal with it. I think this book is a very needed and important addition to everyone library. I know it impacted me and I know it will do the same for you.
