Interrupted – Jennifer Hatmaker

A church member gave me this book for Christmas, and I read it with an open mind.  I would recommend this book to anyone looking to deepen their walk with Christ, with one caveat.  Don’t forgot that the demonstration of the Gospel needs the proclamation of the Gospel.  Many of the influences on Hatmaker during the time she wrote this book were strong social gospel sources.  Helping others is something we are called to do, but not apart from the Gospel message centered in the Cross of Christ.

Our Southern Baptist Church just adopted this study for the summer. I read through the first chapter and agreed with a lot of what she said, but I disagree with her assessment of blessing blessed people. I also believe that as Christians we need to be fed spiritually as a constant. But, I was greatly disturbed by her references to Rob Bell as a reference to read and a second reference to a conference from his church later in the book. I’m surprised this book is sold by Lifeway.
